We’ve Won a Brief Respite on Iran and SOPA

Let’s Use the Breathing Room to Educate People Before the Next Assault

Haaretz reports:

Israel and the United States have postponed a massive joint defense exercise, which was expected to be carried out in the coming weeks, in order to avoid an escalation with Iran.

The European Union’s oil embargo of Iran has likely been delayed for 6 months.

SOPA – the draconian anti-piracy internet bill – has been shelved, at least for now.

Recent history shows that the folks pushing for war with Iran and Internet censorship will try again shortly.

But we’ve won a couple of months in which to ramp up our opposition to both ill-considered efforts, so that – next time the knuckleheads try – the public will be educated and the political hacks will feel the pressure.

Postscript: The pro-censor crowd will likely relabel SOPA under a different name with a different spin. But – mark my words – they will introduce an equally-bad bill before too long.

And watch out for a false flag attack blamed on Iran. Remember that the CIA admits that it hired Iranians in the 1950′s to pose as Communists and stage bombings in Iran in order to turn the country against its democratically-elected prime minister.

And a number of high-level intelligence officials and politicians have said that the U.S. would fake a provocation and blame it on Iran as a casus belli. For example, Ron Paul has warned of a “Gulf of Tonkin type incident” in Iran, and Pulitzer-prize winning investigative reporter Seymour Hersh says many ideas have been proposed for provoking a war, including building boats that look like Iranian boats, and then putting Navy Seals on them to “start a shoot-up”.
