The World Happiness report finds that Mexicans are happier than Americans:
How can this be possible?
It might have something to do with the fact that social mobility is much lower in the U.S. than in many other developed countries, and that modern Americans have no more social mobility than in medieval England.
Or that inequality in America today is twice as bad as in ancient Rome, worse than it was in apartheid South Africa, Tsarist Russia, Gilded Age America, modern Egypt, Tunisia or Yemen, many banana republics in Latin America, and worse than experienced by slaves in 1774 colonial America. Indeed, economist and inequality expert Thomas Piketty notes that – for those who work for a living – the level of inequality in the U.S. is “probably higher than in any other society at any time in the past, anywhere in the world ….”
Or that we’re the most spied on people in world history.
Or that we’ve lost virtually every right guaranteed to us in our Constitution.
Or that our politicians are so insanely corrupt – 75% to 79% of Americans say there is widespread corruption – that most Americans that neither party represents their interests, and 3 times as many Americans supported King George of England during the Revolutionary War as support our OWN Congress today.
