Historical background of Taif

The importance of this city reduced due to the contrast of the two holy cities. Before the Arab Revolt, Ahmed Bay Was the commander of the Ottoman forces in Taif.

 In Makah during June 1916, the Hashemite’s launched their revolt against the Ottoman Empire.

However, due to the severe tensions between the King of the Hejaz, Abdul Al-Saud and Husain ibn Ali, Taif didn’t remain in Hashemite hands for a long period of time.

Abha

Abha is a historical city in Saudi Arabia having four quarters with the fortresses. The largest quarter contains the Hilltop Fortresses which are the feature of the city.

Under the authority of Ottoman Empire until the World War – I, Abha remains the capital city for the Prince of Asir ibn Ayed.

In 1918, the grandson of Ibn Ayed (Yahya bin Hasun Al Ayed) returned to his family throne conquered in Abha with complete independence.

In 2015, terrorists attacked a Big Mosque in Abha and killed some of the Police Officers. Saudi Government is enhancing the Abha city as a tourist destination for visitors.

Masmak Fortress

Masmak Fortress is historic clay in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. You may find it as the Masmak Fort or Al Masmak Palace.

There was a museum later built in this fortress where army used it as a theatre for people. It converted in to museum in 1995. The construction started in 1865 of this fort.

During the reign of Muhammad bin Abdullah Al-Rashid in 1885, the fort completed. This historical palace is situated in the center of Riyadh. The palace has four watch towers and thick walls. 

Areas of Masmak fort

Gate-in the western wall, there is the main palm wood material gate of the fort. The door has an opening in its center which was known as Al-Khokha. This opening is big enough that a person can easily pass through it at a time.

Majlis-It is a room of the rectangular shape situated directly ahead of the entrance of the Fort. There are numerous holes in the walls for the ventilation purposes.

Mosque-The Mosque can be found to the left of the entrance of the Fort. It is a large room supported by the several columns along with shelves onto the walls for the placing of the Mus’hafs of the Quran e Pak. 

Well-in the Fort, the well can be found in the northeastern corner. Watch Towers-There is a watchtower in every corner of the Mosque along with staircases located inside them. These towers have thick walls. Approximately each tower is 1.25 m thick.

Courtyard-In the courtyard, there are many rooms which surround the whole courtyard. It also has stairs which leads to the first floor and roofs. The first floor was for residence purpose, the second for the bait ul mal and the top or roof for guest house.
